Tajikistan may impose more entry bans over coronavirus threat

AKIPRESS.COM – The number of countries which nationals are barred from entry into Tajikistan may be increased, Deputy Health Minister Mirhamuddin Kamolzoda told reporters.

The current list includes 6 countries (China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Iran, Afghanistan), but it can be extended, he said.

The decision about temporary closure of the Uzbek-Tajik border is normal, he said.

“Such decision in the current situation is normal, when 10 Covid-19 cases were registered in Uzbekistan. There are coronavirus cases in Kazakhstan. But this does not mean that we will not support relations with our neighbors,” Kamolzoda said.

“We are following recommendations of the World Health Organization and other development partners. The country has regulations stipulating the algorithm of actions in certain situations. There is no need to shut down kindergartens, schools and universities now,” the Deputy Health Minister said.

No coronavirus cases were registered in Tajikistan so far.
